Grrrrr

All towns have their “known” restaurants. In Nashville, it is an eponymous eatery in the Green Hills area. I have eaten at outposts of this same restaurant in another part of Nashville and in our old neighborhood in Knoxville. Today I ate at the original.

A friend of mine from the theater department in college was in town for the day with his new wife and baby and we wanted to do lunch. I am on an hour lunch schedule, so I investigated where to go. And as we needed some place with a low carb menu and this place advertises as such, has call ahead seating and valet parking, I figured we could get in and out pretty quickly. We did.

Keifel ordered a big honking ribeye which he said was very good. I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They sounded good on the menu, weren’t too pricey (this place ain’t cheap) and I figured “how can you mess up enchiladas”? I’m naive.

I was served two blue corn tortilla chicken enchiladas. Blue corn isn’t really blue, it’s kind of a deep purpley blue once it’s been processed. These were damn near royal blue and the color was coming off in the cheese sauce. Dyed royal blue corn tortillas. Damn it. The sauce was okay, the chicken was dry… Dyed! the tortillas were dyed! I may have to go lie down. Sadly, I forked them down because I was in a hurry and I was famished but I will not be forking over my hard-earned money to those purveyors of artificially enhanced tortillas again any time soon.
